Eligibility • What to Bring • Selection Criteria • Registration • Logistics

Who is eligible to attend Training Camp?

Training Camp is intended for athletes who can safely participate in high-intensity football activities and compete for a spot on a professional arena football roster. You’ll be asked for key details during registration (including age, height, weight, position(s), and playing experience) so the staff can evaluate fit and placement. You were invited through the signing process to compete for a spot on the roster.

Do I have to register in advance?

Yes—plan to register/submit your information ahead of time so coaches and staff can prepare camp groups and evaluations. The Bombers’ tryouts/interest form collects your contact and player info (name, email, phone, age, position(s), experience). We typically have this information from you when you signed with the team/league.

What positions are evaluated?

All football positions may be considered. You’ll list your position(s) during registration.

Does previous playing experience matter?

Experience helps, but it’s not the only factor. You’ll be asked to list your playing experience during registration; coaches will balance what’s on paper with what you show on the field (execution, effort, coachability).

Is there a fee to attend?

No.

What gear should I bring?

Bring the basics to perform at full speed:

  • Football cleats
  • Athletic workout gear (compression/shorts, etc.)
  • Water (hydration is essential)
  • Optional: helmet (if you have one and it’s in good condition)

Should I bring pads (shoulder pads, etc.)?

Pads are required for every on-field contact session; the team typically communicates this in the official camp instructions. When in doubt, bring what you already own and be ready for both non-contact and contact-appropriate work.

What personal items should I bring?

  • Photo ID
  • Small towel
  • Athletic tape/braces you normally use
  • Light snack (as allowed)
  • Any medical items you may need (inhaler, etc.)

What should I NOT bring?

Avoid valuables and anything that could get lost or damaged. Keep your bag simple and clearly labeled.

What are coaches looking for?

While each position has specific techniques, most evaluations come down to a few consistent themes:

  • Effort & competitiveness: consistent motor, urgency, finishing plays
  • Execution: doing your job correctly (alignment, assignment, technique)
  • Football IQ: processing quickly, adjusting to coaching, situational awareness
  • Athletic traits: quickness, change of direction, balance, hands, burst
  • Coachability: taking feedback, improving rep-to-rep, being dependable
  • Professionalism: punctuality, preparation, communication, respect for teammates and staff

These align with the Bombers’ stated emphasis on community, youth development, local pride, and building meaningful connections—how you show up matters.

How important are measurables (height/weight)?

Measurables are part of the picture, and the registration form collects height and weight. Coaches typically evaluate whether your build and movement match the demands of arena football and your specific position role.

Will there be “final cuts”?

Yes. Final cuts will be made at the end of Training Camp to determine the official Oceanside Bombers roster for the AF1 2026 season.

If I’m not selected, can I still be considered later?

Often, teams track prospects for future needs (injuries, roster movement, practice opportunities). If this is part of the Bombers’ process, they’ll communicate next steps after camp.

What will camp sessions include?

Most pro-style camps include some mix of:

  1. Warm-up and movement prep
  2. Individual drills (position-specific)
  3. Competitive periods (1-on-1 / group / team)
  4. Install and execution periods (play concepts, situational football)

How physical is arena football?

Arena football is fast and space-driven. Coaches tend to prioritize quick processing, leverage, and short-area explosiveness—especially for skill positions and coverage players.

Where is Training Camp held?

Camp will involve facilities in the Oceanside area. The Bombers are slated to play home games at Frontwave Arena beginning in 2026. You will receive a tour of the arena facility. A complete schedule, including locations, dates, times, and activities, is provided to you by the coaching staff before you arrive at camp.

What if I’m traveling from out of town?

Plan for:

  • Early arrival (check-in and warm-up time)
  • Backup gear (cleats, clothing)
  • Hydration and recovery (sleep, nutrition)

How will I know the schedule and check-in instructions?

Use official Bombers channels (coaches, assistant general manager, and player personnel coordinator) and any emails you receive with information about camp.
